"How deep do fitted wardrobes have to be?" - This is a question we get asked a lot and it is an important one!
The quick answer to this question is: Your fitted wardrobe should have an overall depth of between 600mm (minimum) and 700mm.
This page explains the above answer in more detail.
The benefits of sliding wardrobe doors over hinged doors are well known and have been a popular choice in Europe for many years. Along with their sleek contemporary styling and ease of access, they also require less space and have great space saving characteristics.
"What is the standard size of a built in wardrobe?" - There is no standard size to our wardrobes. We take all factors into consideration when planning and designing your new fitted wardrobe.
"How much depth do I need inside?" - The width of a typical coat hanger is around 450mm (45cm). However, this can be misleading when it comes to calculating your wardrobe depth. 450mm is the Shoulder Size. As a general guide, clothes, particularly coats and jackets will taper out at the bottom and will therefore require more depth than the hanger itself. We can design your interior from 500mm deep, this is an absolute minimum and if more space is available, we highly recommend using it.
"How much room space do I need?" -The short answer to this question is 600 – 700mm deep for open interior wardrobes, with unlined backs.
An ideal wardrobe depth is 600mm Interior Space + 100mm Frame Space, to allow our doors to operate = 700mm overall depth.
"What if I don't have enough space?" - If your wardrobe space is limited to under the 600mm minimum depth, we can install front to back hanging. With front to back hanging, you hang your clothes front facing as the wardrobe is not deep enough for regular side by side hanging.
